The report about ‘Electrodes and separator strips manufacturing’ describes the scaling up for the manufacturing of positive and negative electrodes and solid electrolyte membrane towards the fabrication of “Li|SE|NMC811” multiple Ah solid state pouch cells.
The main objective of the reported activity is the adaptation of the process parameters on pilot line equipment at several kg-scale for the manufacturing of several meter-length strips of electrodes and solid electrolyte layer (SEL) for multiple Ah large pouch cells.
In this context, the document collects information about the manufacturing of positive and negative electrodes, and solid electrolyte membrane towards the development and fabrication of “Li|SE|NMC811” solid state cells with capacity of multiple Ah.
Concerning composite positive electrode, formulations based on the “NMC811|Carbon additive|Catholyte” system have been developed. As result, solid-state composite cathodes with loading up to 3.0 mAh/cm2 have been successfully developed and upscaled in CIDETEC’s pilot plant.

Regarding the solid electrolyte layer, SAFT successfully manually upscaled membranes formulated with polymers and Li ion conductive ceramic materials (LATP).

Finally, HQ scaled up the production of the 40m lithium anode without any problems. Samples of this anode were delivered to partners to the manufacturer of prototype cells.

Thus, all essential cell components have been successfully developed and upscaled towards the manufacturing of multiple Ah size solid state cells.
